Shrem’s February Songs

March 4, 2015 – Culture
1.  “DREAM STORY” – LAURA GROVES

Laura Groves’ hypnotising melodies, beguiling vocal harmonies and delicately produced synth-pop gems, fit somewhere between the sounds of Nite Jewel, M83, Jenny Wilson and iamamiwhoami. Maybe even Kate Bush… “Dream Story” is an instant favourite on her latest EP “Committed Language”. This unassuming and effortlessly cool London songstress is one to watch in 2015.

2. “YOU MADE THE WORLD GO ROUND” – HARD TON

2 (1)

Hard Ton, aka Dis-Grace Jones, XXXL Italo Disco and Acid House enfant terrible and one of the most prolific acts of the underground dance scene these past few years, has just released another astonishing EP. Flamboyant, camp and sexy, “You Made The World Go Round” echoes the late Frankie Knuckles and is accompanied visually by a highly entertaining dose of kitsch and kaleidoscopically OTT images. The Leigh Bowery of the modern era.

3. “GONE FISHING” – RÓISÍN MURPHY

3

La Murphy is back with the first teaser coming from her highly anticipated 3rd solo album. “Gone Fishing” sounds a wee bit like she’s gone off flirting with Matthew Herbert again, “Ruby Blue” stylee. The song, inspired by “Paris Is Burning”, promises all sounds unclassifiable and divine on “Hairless Toys” which drops 11th May.

4. “BE (Hercules & Love Affair Remix)” – CITIZENN FEAT. STARVING YET FULL

4

A slice of dirty house courtesy of Citizenn, the velvet voiced ex-Azari & III vocalist Starving Yet Full and the always reliable Hercules & Love Affair crew. For those loving a bit of mystery in their club anthems. Delectable.

5. “KONG” – JULIO BASHMORE FEAT. BIXBY

5

There’s something charmingly oldskool about this latest, undeniably catchy tune from Julio Bashmore, a man who is convincing with both producing stellar house records as well as modern soul classics for Jessie Ware. This one’s for your Saturday Night euphoric moment on the dancefloor.
