Loosening of the tongue: Poetry

July 21, 2014 – People
Mr. Andy Apples is ‘the man who dances with poetry’. He talks with Niamh Beirne, creator of the collective PETTYCASH.

The last three years has seen an uprising of young poetic voices, fuelling a resurgence of spoken word poetry all across Dublin city. Who is responsible for this? Well, one of the most notable poetry and art collectives is PETTYCASH, who have brought unique performances and events to the forefront. From their monthly show at the much missed Little Green, they have gone on to perform as part of the Trinity Arts Festival and 10 Days in Dublin, to the stages of Life Festival, Body and Soul and Electric Picnic.

This week, in the very first edition of the PettyCast (can you guess where the name finds its origins?), andyapples talks one half of of the double act that started it all: Niamh Beirne drops by to share a couple of poems, her thoughts on spoken word in Dublin and why PETTYCASH has had the success it has.
