Elastic Sleep and Other Creatures at Whelans, Friday February 20th

elastic-sleepothercreatures

Elastic Sleep’s appeal resides in their ability to vacillate between haunting fragility and violent intensity. Within Elastic Sleep’s capacities is the ability to graft the dreamlike with the familiar and the weighty. The resulting unease manifests itself in the combination of the pure, almost child-like vocals of the female, the reverb drenched guitar, the lurching, turgid bass and the lo-fi drums.

Elements of surf-rock in a post-punk framework, Other Creatures, providing support for Elastic Sleep, ease us into the night with a lighter approach to reverb intensive, bare-bones guitar-orientated rock. For only 8e this is a must attend for any post-punk enthusiast.

Meltybrains? at the Pepper Canister Church, Friday February 20th

meltybrains_

For the launch of  their “Donegal / IV” vinyl, experimental electronic group Meltybrains? collaborate with Slipdraft to stage a sold-out audio-visual show which, in the setting of the beautiful Pepper Canister Church, will be pretty incredible. Glowing with the beautiful light show, the shredding violin and soaring synth ringing out from the altar will certainly be absolutely breathtaking. Meltybrains? have been receiving a lot of attention recently and it’s easy to understand why – the combination of their famously engaging and dynamic live performances with a tendency for vague and nonsensical lyrical content make Meltybrains? really interesting. This is definitely a show you want to see.

GoldenPlex, LeCool, Nialler9, and The Last Mixtape have all chosen their favourite acts of 2014 and they’re a handsome bunch. Carriages, Dear Dessert, Bitch Falcon and September Girls all take the stage for a fun celebration of great Irish music.
