It’s May, and after that woefully dull winter, I am praying for my hay fever to kick in. The month is filled with hype, from music, referendum antics, to the start of the festival circuit. I CAN SMELL THE SESH NOW LADS.

Photo Ireland Foundation festival – on Abortion

WHERE? Scattered around our beautiful city.

The Photo Ireland Foundation are hosting a festival for the beautiful month of May. Surrounding the topic of ‘Abortion’ numerous talks, exhibitions and performances will be hosted around Dublin.

With creatives such as Laia Abril, Sarah Cullen & Jamin Keogh among those who are being showcased throughout the packed filled month, it is the perfect moment for everyone to educate themselves on the topic of abortion.

It is so important to make your voice be heard in the most articulate manner in this upcoming referendum. Go to this event, and make Ireland a fabbb city of equality.

Girls Rock Camp Fundraiser –

WHEN? 4th May

WHERE? Whelan’s Bar

Girls Rock Camp is probably one of the best organisations to hit Dublin in years, and they are hosting a fundraiser which I DEMAND you attend. The non-profit organisation builds the girls self-esteem through music creation and performance, allowing them to find their voice in a non-competitive environment.

HOW EMPOWERING, RIGHT?!

The fundraiser will see some of the amazing women on the Irish music circuit, including Pillow Queens, Maria Kelly, Roe and Sub motion. Tickets are €11.50 (BARGIN), and all proceeds will be going into the Girls Rock Camp.

The creatives at H&G Creations, Collective Dublin & Cupl have organised an affirmation booth.

What’s that you ask?

The booth is an art installation, interactive experience where people can share stories, secrets, ANYTHING, and in return receive true, positive affirmations about themselves. It’s essentially a confession-booth of love and acceptance, and not preachy religious vibes.

ARE YOU FREAKING OUT? I AM TOTALLY FREAKING OUT – SPIES ARE BACK!!!

Their first show in two years is this month, and it is set to be killer. The new single ‘Young Dad’ has reached beyond their fans expectations, and I am unbelievably excited, like, genuinely. Their new electronic twist feels current, yet the core of the band remains leading to deadly vibes all round.

Although it was a long two years wait, it suddenly seems worth it. This is the time for Spies, and I cannot wait to watch the journey unfold.

 

Hothouse Party!

Hothouse is an event that H&G organise alongside Jus Damien, Reveller & PrYmary Colours.

If you haven’t been, how very dare you. We demand you strut your sweet self in for an electric mix of house, disco, 90s and throw a few shapes with our sweaty-selves.

This month theme is ‘GIVING ME LIFE’, literally. We are going to encourage you all to finish your drink and join the energy of love and joy, so we can reconnect and catch the contagiously good vibes.

Hop House 13 Presents – The Hop House

WHERE? Whelans, Parlour Bar.

The last of the amazing events put on by Hop House 13 will be held in the beautiful Parlour Bar of Whelan’s. Expect free food, tasty free pints & stunning décor by yours truly!

Entertainment will be bangin’ throughout the night, with Ships, LUMO DJs and Telephone DJs alongside Dublin’s most talented street artists.

We have adored working at these events, the craic was stunnnning. Thank you to Hop House 13 for allowing H&G run wild and create a wonderful house party vibe.

Old Hannah

Have you heard the wonder of Old Hannah? I have recently become obsessed with this talented band from their new single ‘Follow’. Delicate, yet a sense of urgency wraps around the groups honest beauty. Top class song writing, with emotive arrangements leaves Old Hannah’s album ‘Borealis’ one to await.

To celebrate the ‘Follow’ single, they are playing a host of shows across Ireland, and the Dublin one is not to be missed.

Super Silly are putting on a show “for the silly people out there” – count me in bae.

The four lads have been making serious waves across the Irish music scene, dropping absolute bangers titled ‘Not Ready To Leave’, ‘Mile High Club’ and ‘No Pressure’, which was performed at Forbidden Fruit, Electric Picnic & Other Voices to name a few.. Yep, they are classsss.

The Dublin gig is set to be mega – if anyone knows how to control a crowd, these lads do.

Be prepared for class beats, slick rhymes and viibeeeesss.

Mother Presents: YESIVAL

The Mother team is throwing a party to celebrate 3 years since the YES vote, to let all us queers re-live the moment of equality! Lemme tell you, it’s gonna be SO GLAM.

Across the two levels of the Tivoli theatre, our queen Cormac Cashman will be rolling up his sequins sleeves and filling the venue with gays to tear the roof off the place with the biggest queer party of the year. Headlining the Mother mainstage with an explosion of pop at the stroke of midnight, Sophie Ellie-Bextor performs live with support from festival favorites & club residents, The Mother DJs. It’s Mother on the Dancefloor!

Expect a gender-bending line up of performance from the infamous underground Glitter HOLE crew, Ireland’s got Talent heartbreaker Paul Ryder , and the show stopping Sean Kennedy & Julie Shanley with more TBA.

Life Festival

When: 25th & 27th of May

Where: Belvedere House, Meath.

ARRRRG, I CAN SMELL SUMMER – LIFE FESTIVAL!!

After the cold winter months, I couldn’t be more ready to grab last year’s tent with the broken door, and escape to Life Festival. H&G hosted a stage their last year, and the craic was too much for us to handle.

The unique event presents a vibrant range of cutting-edge music, visual and traditional arts, workshops and performances through a camping based three day weekend of celebration, partying and respect for the environment and each other.

The beautiful gardens of Belvedere House provides the best scenery for this year party venue. Expect astonishing grounds and lake, stages, eco-friendly camping facilities, cool healing area, workshops, tasty food stalls, lots of love and fairy decorations. Join us in these 3 days filled with sound, visuals, performances and meet like-minded people from all over the world.
