August’s Event Guide: What Not To Miss In Dublin This Month

July 31, 2018 – News

Ok, don’t panic, but summer is coming to a close with August here – honestly devastating. The sun was out, the vitamin D was had and I even seen the odd tweet of some old hag saying they missed the rain! Obviously, I blocked them.

To get the most out of the beautiful mr. Sun, H&G have chosen the best things to do in August. Don’t waste your time, soon you’ll see all the basic folk post about their pumpkin spiced latte… I’m just not mentally prepared for that.

Sit back, relax and enjoy a the fab content;

  1. Gaze (LGBTQ film fest)

WHEN? 4th – 6th  August

WHERE? Dotted around Dublin

€? Prices may vary.

My favvvv film festival is back for its 26th year!

I recall living the life of a gayby all them years ago and loving every second of the Gaze festival. Informative, fun and surrounded by artsy gays, believe me – never a dull moment. Every year its gone from strength to strength and this year is no exception.

Two of the numerous films you must catch are ‘Disobedience’, which stars Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams. and ‘The Miseducation of Cameron Post’, starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Jennifer Ehle. With much critical acclaim, they set to reach the high end of the gorge spectrum, trust moi.

Here is a list of all the fab films.

2. GLITTER TITS; Launch

WHEN? 7th of July

WHERE? Secret location.

Ok, I know it has sold out (so soz for those who didn’t get tickets), BUT WE HAD TO INCLUDE THIS.

H&G have set up a course titled ‘Glitter Tits’, focused on inspiring women, the queer community and anyone else hoping to try their hand at DJing, offering a safe environment to unleash their party monster – can I get a YAAAS?

The fabulous course will entail the lucky students who got tickets learning the tricks of the DJing trade from selected industry professionals (Nialler9, Aimie Mallon from Le Boom, Mix & Fairbanks, Colin Devine, Jus Damien and Roo Honeychild). With the focus on getting students booked for future events, ‘Glitter Tits’ will host an end of course party in association with ABSOLUT Vodka (which you are totally invited to), showcasing the blooming talent to potential bookers.

Sad you missed out on the course? Be sure to sign-up to our newletter to be the first to find out about all things H&G!

3) The Murder Capital

WHEN? 9th of August

WHERE? Whelans

€? 10

Punk scene is dead? I think not.

I must admit, I’m still on the disco, techno buzz. However, The Murder Capital are refreshingly bold and to be fair – quite sexy (DM me lads xx). There is just something about bold lads who make noise and write profound lyrics that gets one going. I caught their set at Knockanstockan and my true inner punk bitch came out. I was literally nearly moshing until I realised I was too cute to get hurt.

ANYWAY, the lads are playing a headliner in Whelans. I advise you all to go to not only support the stunning Irish talent, but to try catch a glimpse of them before they are big hot shots.

Tickets can be found here.

4) H&G Presents – ‘Hot House’

30th anniversary of possibly the GREATEST movie of all time. Happy birthday, bae!

For those of you who are fans, I shall see you there. For those of you who are haven’t seen this masterpiece, HOW DARE YOU! It is my demand that you see this film on a big screen, OK?

7) The Big Grill Fest

WHEN? 16th – 19th

WHERE? Herbert Park

€ – 29

VEGANS, SCROLL – NOW!

Ok, phew – now that we’ve gotten them out of the way, let’s talk about our love for killing baby lambs. WHY YOU GOT TO BE SO TASTY?

Representing the only flexitarian in H&G’s office, I ventured to The Big Grill Fest pre-party (yes, I made a new dietary term up because we all need to treat ourselves sometimes, ok?) IT WAS DEVINE. I ate basically my body weight in burgers, sausages, meatballs, wings, basically anything I could grit my teeth into.

The festival celebrates the art of cooking with fire & smoke bringing chefs cooks and pitmasters from Ireland, UK and further along with over 20,000 visitors to smell, taste, discover and learn about all kinds of barbecuing, grilling, smoking, vegetables, meats, delicacies and drinks.

If you find yourself with kebab sauce all over your face after a night out, get yourself a ticket and join the secret life of the flexitarian. YOU DESERVE IT!

Tickets can be found here

8) Britney Spears

WHEN? 20th August

WHERE? 3 Arena

$? PRICELESS

I must confess, I didn’t get a ticket to the Britney concert. My heart, it aches like when ‘The Simple Life’ of Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton got cancelled… People say grieving is difficult, but it cannot compare to this. I am literally VERY close to setting up a ‘GoFundMe’ page, because I think my fellow Spears’ fans will relate to my pain.

IF YOU GOT A TICKET, be prepared for hit, after hit, after hit. I am welling up at the thoughts, this life just isn’t fair.

Beautiful feasts of food, bespoke cocktails, can be enjoyed within this dramatic and scenic landscape. Some of the numerous acts include Roisin Murphy (QWEEN), Fleet Foxes, Mura Musa, Chaka Khan, The Black Madonna and loads more.

All of this and sesh, what more could you ask for?
